Measurement of NAD+ - HealthNAD+

HEALTHNAD+

Our NAD+ measurement test, the energy that cells need for a longer and healthier life

WHAT IS NAD+?

NAD+ is a coenzyme found in living cells. It plays a crucial role in different metabolic pathways leading to the production of ATP, a molecule that is essential for cellular energy production. Many of these pathways are involved in aging and age-related disease processes and are regulated by enzymes such as sirtuins and PARP.

It is composed of two nucleotides linked together, NAD stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.

In its oxidized form, it is represented as NAD+ because of its positive charge.

Therefore, NAD+ is a molecule involved in cellular energy processes, being key in metabolism and respiration carried out in the mitochondria. It is essential for all the tissues of the organism, varying its levels in each one of them, since each one has specific needs.

WHAT IS NAD+ FOR?

NAD+ regulates multiple cellular functions in addition to metabolic ones, such as DNA repair, mitochondrial function, cellular senescence or regulation of the amount of reactive oxygen species. All these functions together are important in cell maintenance.

It has been proven that the amount of NAD+ in the body naturally decreases with age and may be behind many diseases associated with aging, such as diabetes, cardiovascular or neurodegenerative diseases and vision loss.

The positively charged NAD+ becomes NADH when it accepts electrons from other molecules and becomes reduced. This reaction also forms a charged hydrogen molecule (H+) and two electrons. Because the electrons are negatively charged, the combination of NAD+ and positively charged H+ along with two electrons cancel each other out, neutralizing the resulting NADH molecule. These electron transfer reactions are the main function of NAD+.

HOW DO WE MEASURE NAD+?

NAD+ is found in the interior of cells, where it fulfills its function of transferring energy. Therefore, in order to measure it, it must first be extracted from the cells. We can measure the amount of NAD+ from any tissue sample, but the most easily accessible is blood.

WHY MEASURE NAD+ AND OPTIMIZE ITS LEVELS?

Measuring a person's NAD+ levels can be useful in assessing their cellular health and their risk of diseases associated with aging. NAD+ levels can decrease or increase in response to or in response to different pathologies such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease or vision loss, as well as to different drugs or dietary supplements. The degree of variation depends on the pathology and is different in each person.

The benefits of optimizing NAD+ levels include increased cellular energy, DNA repair, and reduced oxidative stress, as well as improved blood plasma lipid profiles, glucose intolerance and insulin sensitivity, bone density and nerve tissue regeneration.
